Hi, I am trying to program the ht1250 radio with an aftermarket ribless cable. I am so far not successful. When i hook everything up all the cps(6.04) says is that it cant open the port, check to see if device is powered up etc. What is the problem, did i get stuck with a crap cable? I have multiple ht1250 radios and none of them work on this cable. i know the cps works fine because i use it with my rib to program my cdm1250. Does the ht have a program mode like the minitors or is it just a plug and play.
thanks for your help

Re: Ribless Ht1250 cable
The 1250s do not have to be put into any sort of programming mode. Just attach the cable and go.
From your description, I would certainly be looking at the cable with suspicion. A good first step would be to open up the serial plug and see if it actually contains the appropriate electronics. The cables aren't truly "RIBless", they just have the interface electronics built into the connector.
It would not be the first time an ignorant or unscrupulous seller on eBay built a straight cable without the electronics and sold it as a "RIBless".
The obvious next step would be to borrow a known good RIBless cable and see how that goes.

Amateurs train until they can do it right. Professionals train until they cannot do it wrong.
Re: Ribless Ht1250 cable
at first i was thinking i got the shaft on this ebay deal, but the seller valley enterprises is being very responsive and is even willing to accept it back in return for a good known working one, so i wouldnt necessarily think he tried to screw me over on this deal, but he mentioned he wanted me to check the pins on the cable with a multimeter to be sure it is actually the problem. i dont have access to a known good cable, in the past we have had these radios programmed by an authorized m repair shop locally, and they were recently programmed again about 3 months ago, now we are trying to offset the cost by doing it ourselves. so far that hasnt been a very progressive step. thanks for all your input. and the only port i can select is com1, and thats the port i have in the back of the computer. and yes it is enabled in windows to work as well. thanks
