The best? There is no best! Your radio can only be programmed by the same version or a newer version of rss or cps than it was last programed with.

And no there is no way to tell other than attempting to read your radio. If you don't have a new enough version it will let you know.

FYI, this is another way to help combat piracy of rss cps.

This topic has been discussed here many times before........Search is your friend....... 8)

I wouldn't go as far as saying that, however, I believe that it may have been a side effect.

Keep in mind, different versions of the software corrected bugs and added functionality to the software itself. If this added functionality is dependent on codeplug changes, then it changed the structure of the codeplug. It's like driving with a GPS with maps that are 4 years old. You'll still get there, but the streets or instructions to turn off/on an exit may be way off base.

So while it may have the appearance of this being the main reasoning, it is more of a side effect of ever expanding features and functionality requested by customers.

It all depends on what you're used to. Some people like RSS, some people like CPS. I myself like CPS because I feel it's easier to navigate, but other are used to DOS and would prefer to use RSS. I guess it's a personal thing. But once you use CPS you generally speaking cannot go backwards to RSS.

Keith,

I believe the latest CPS for the Astro Saber and XTS3000
radios is 5.02.00. If it's not THE latest it's pretty recent.

Not true. Versions 1 and 2 of CPS were backwards compatible with RSS 9.5, and were made that way to get people comfortable with CPS. I don't believe it was until version 3 of the astro cps that you could then not use traditional RSS to program.

My bad, you're right. I totally forgot about CPS 1 and 2 backwards compatability. (Mebey it's because when I got into AstroSabers/3k's, CPS 4 was already out? )
