OTAP??

Post by libuff »

im sure this is Over The Air Programming, but how does this work? does anybody have experience with this, although i understand this is fairly new stuff.

what is needed to get this going? what can it be used on? XTS-1500? or must it be a 2500/5000? can it be used on XTL-1500+?

what is needed to do the programming, is it an interface between a PC and a XTL Based radio to pump the data into a P25 repeater? or must it be trunked?

The Help File wrote:Motorola’s Over The Air Programming feature, also known as OTAP, allows you to transmit and receive codeplug data over the air; this is accomplished without the need of any radio programming cables. From the CPS to an “in the field” radio, this Over The Air Programming feature is capable of: Reading, Writing, and even Cloning codeplug data.
Note: OTAP is part of the Programming Over Project 25 (POP25) feature set.

Mandatory OTAP requirements include:

a. The radio must be in communication with an in-the-field OTAP capable and Data capable ASTRO 25 Trunking System.
b. An Advanced System Key with OTAP enabled (for Trunking Systems) must be loaded in the CPS.
c. The CPS codeplug must be OTAP capable and Packet Data Capable.

I think you can only do this on a 7.x platform system as well.

Alex you are correct, It requires SR 7.X trunked environment, and a slew of infrastructure enhancements.

As for the EFJ, it requires that the newest RSS be used (Don't remember the version off-hand). This version has paramaters for sending the rss codeplug info to the P25 Data "Server". This in turn, via IP, alerts the OTAP enabled mobile or portable radio to prepare for the RX of the new Plug. The radio depending on the programed configs. will alert the user of the request, requiring the user to ack., Or just zap the radio. Upon completing the download, again depending on the programming of the radio, will automatically restart the radio or wait till the next power on cycle before activating the new code plug. And this will program ALL (everything) in the radio just as if it were pluged directly into the computer.......
