Saber Can you use the built in mic with a speaker mic?

Post by Grog »

Ok, I have a speaker mic I bought from someone on here several months ago, and while looking to be in very good shape, when I transmitted it kept cutting on and off. Short of opening it up and seeing what's up, I'm going to make the best of what I have.

If the speaker mic is attached, will I still be able to hold the radio and use the built in microphone? There are many times I would not need to transmit too often, but having the audio close would be very helpful.

Thanks for any answers, and I know I could try it out myself, but it's buried in a box already and I don't feel like finding it for this yet

As far as I know it'll work fine. If you push the radio PTT, you'd use the radio mic. If you push the accessory PTT, you'd use the accessory mic.

As far as I know all the high end moto portables work the same way (many a time I've seen public safety personnel pull their radio with an attached speakermic out of the holster, and hold the radio up and key it up speaking into the radio mic).

We train them to do this, it gets the antenna out in the clear for better range.
