Depending on what your trying to do, you may need to go into the RSS and make some changes to fully
use the accessory connector. The TX audio input is one area that needs to be changed.

1 AUX PTT
2 DCE_TXD
3 DCE_RXD
4 DCE_CTS
5 BUS+
6 RX FILT AUDIO
7 AUX_RX
8 AUX_TX
9 RX FILT AUDIO
10 ANA_GND
11 MIC_LO
12 MIC_HI
13 EMERGENCY
14 BUS-
15 MONITOR
16 CHAN ACT
17 DCE_RTS
18 DIG_GND
19 RESET
20 A+
21 BUS_SHIELD
22 SWB+
23 BUSY
24 SPKR-
25 SPKR+

Does it have the funny looking 26 pin connector like the XTL 1500 and 2500 have?

Just so everybody know what i'm trying to accomplish. I'm going to be hooking a Comm Spec. Paging Encoder up to this XTL5000 and use it as a base radio.

You said you have a 100 watt radio. The only connector on a 100 watt radio is the DB25 connector next to
the remote control head cable. If you have a dash mount radio, it is not a 100 watt radio. That radio has the
funky looking 26 pin connector on it with the speaker wires and the ignition wire. If that is what you have, the
pinout is different.

Let us know which style radio you have.

If your going to use this as a paging encoder base station, you will have to set the RSS to activate the
external audio connection. There is also a gain setting that can be messed with. Out of the box they
generally come with way too much gain and have to be turned back.

What is important to keep in mind that when any tones are sent over a radio, they need to be in the linear
portion of the audio and not run into compression. If the tones are being sent while in audio compression,
they will be distorted. The best way to insure your not into compression when sending the tones is to
use a service monitor and set the encoder audio level to give a transmitter output deviation of on 3.0 KHz.
If your using a repeater, this is even more important. Most repeaters are again not set up correctly and
generally are set way into compression. This also brings up the background noise. Simple way to tell is
to listen to the background road noise when a mobile is driving down the road. If you hear a bunch of rumbling
in the background, the repeater is probably in need of adjustment.

Well i think you just answered my second question which is does the XTL2500 and 5000 have the same Acc connector. I was assuming the 26 Pin Acc. connector used on the dash mount was also used on the 110 w. Remote mount. Thats what i get for assuming with Motorola. Thanks for the 25 pinout.

Does any configuration (either the 26 way Moto special or the 25 way D) allow external audio to be fed in so as to be heard out the local speaker? I'm thinking poor man's dual band (OK, RX only on 2nd band) here ...
