Has anything happened to it? A fall or anything or was it just working and then not, or was it like that when you got it?

Yep, common problem. You drop radio, crack chassis and battery baseplate and blow fuse on RF board.

I will look at it if you want, have you opened it up? Its very common for the chassis flex to break at the point it folds over the chassis, that can also cause your symptoms, and is expensive to replace.

OK, the person you bought it from dropped it and broke the chassis. Seriously I have replaced HUNDREDS of chassis and flex cables on these radios. We had a very large federal customer with 2000+ of these and its a know problem. I've worked on them for over 6 years now. Cracks WILL develope on the chassis where the screws are punched through it to the battery baseplate. If the battery starts getting difficult to put on and take off or if you see scrapping marks on the battery its because of a cracked chassis or someone overtightened the baseplate and most likely cracked the chassis. Another place it likes to crack is near the control top where the antenna switch goes through the chassis. Parts of the metal chassis work themselves in the Vocon board or near the on/off switch on the flex and blow the fuse. As far as the flex causing the radio to not power on, I've only seen that happend a couple of times. Other possible causes could be a bad Vocon board or just a bad on/off switch. BTW, whoever works on this, make sure they have the proper Torque tool for the battery baseplate or they will over tighten it and you will have a cracked chassis. Good luck!

If its ruggedized the chassis should be fine then. They eliminated most of the cracked chassis problems with that housing and the battery baseplate is completely different.
