What's the difference between the Convertacom for Astro Saber ( NTN7227 ) and for the regular Saber ( NTN5487) ?
More to the point. can the regular Saber convertacom be used with the Astro Saber IF only for the
amplified speaker feature? I don't care about charging, transmitting, remote
mic features, just for the amplified speaker ?
Are alterations necessary ?

No. One, the AVA has different on-board firmware to control the Astro Saber, and two, the Astro Saber uses physical antenna switching versus electronic antenna switching on the conventional Saber line. Which means, at the least, the connector on the NTN5487 SVA is wired differently. I would suspect there are other hardware differences as well.

Correct. The Astro Vehicular Adapter (AVA) is backward-compatible with conventional Sabers and System Sabers, but the Saber Vehicular Adapter (SVA) is not forward-compatible with an Astro Saber. You can drop an Astro Saber in a SVA and charge the battery, but that's it.FireCpt809 wrote:I know an AVA will work with a Saber..
