MICOR key on guard tone
I looked through the service manuals but can not find a way to do this, if it's even possible. Has anyone got or modified a Micor to key on guard tone only? I have done it with Quantars and programming but am trying to do it with a Micor now.....
Re: MICOR key on guard tone
It should be possible but I never tried it and would not want to because it will probably false key from line audio.
Micor PTT is controlled by the Guard Tone module. The Function Tone module keys the channel element. It looks like if you strap the channel element control to always be on, PTT from the Guard Tone module will key up the xmitter. This would be ok in a repeater but, in a simplex station, the signal from the channel element may be strong enough to get into the receiver. It would be necessary to have the PTT line from the Guard Tone module also bring up the channel element if this is a problem.
Again, I have not tried this and I may be missing something else going on in the control circuits but it looks like it could work. The Guard Tone module may still want to see the initial high level to operate.
Why would you want to do this?

Re: MICOR key on guard tone
Guard tone keying is used on links so that the tone remote sequence can be forwarded to a remotely controlled [RA] station. Generally, the console or other device that initiates transmissions is configured for extended high level guard tone so that there is sufficient time to set up the link path and still have enough guard tone reach the remote station.
This capability was offered on Micor statons as a factory option, C170SP. Later, the PURC link radios incorporated this feature. These are called: "guard tone relay stations".
Locating a Micor PURC service manual is probably the best bet for finding documentation. When set up this way, the F1-PL module is not used and the channel element switch option is added to the guard tone decoder card. PURC link stations also have an activity checker module and are often set up to use 'flat audio'

ok, thanks. I will look into the PURC manual.
