Astro radio ok on MURS?
I am involved in the public safety community and have a definitive need for two radios. However, saying that I would like to experiment with APCO-25 on MURS. Is this acceptable per the FCC rules, it seems like it is to me. Where should I start to purchase such said equiptment. I am already running other radios on MURS that compliment the VHF public safety frequencies that I am using. Also as I understand digital is not allowed on GMRS as well as DES/DVP, ie.?

APCO is not allowed on GMRS?

I know encryption is not allowed but APCO should be, Both IMBE and VSLEP are allowed on HAM freqs and they seem to be the tightest on rules.
I hear 2 GMRS repeters here with encryption, 1 uses MDC squ to open the receiver and I know by the preamble that they are using MTS2k's for handhelds.
The only rules for MURS should be bandwidth and power.
Heh, Been wrong before tho!

- What radios do you own?: Progreso soup can with CRT
MURS, APCO25, etc.
Regardless of whether or not encryption would be/is permitted on the MURS channels, I believe that the FCC writeup requires type acceptance for equipment used in this service. I haven't seen any such radios yet, and I suppose that a lot of people are ignoring the type acceptance thing, but maybe for a public safety agency to ignore the regs would not be such a good idea.

Walk into CompUSA or BestBuy up here and they sell them next to the FRS/GMRS radios!

I already have those stupid Columbia Telecommunications MURS along with other radios. I want to expand my horizons and talk on APCO-25 so only those who are either technicaly advanced, have the new Uniden scanner or other such device can listen in. I have to share one of the five frequencies with the area Wal-Mart and some small apartment maintance guys and the like. I just thought I would have it just in case the county decides to go VHF digital anyway. I would have a definitive use for the features of the radio anyway. Just thought it would be nice if I could try to use APCO-25 for my personal use just becasue it is their.

There's no restriction on any radio as long as it fits under the rulesCAPTLPOL wrote:I believe the type-acceptance thing relays to a radio that was produced after the rules of effect. I could be wrong, or it may just be my interpretation.
25Khz on the 2 154Mhz channels
12.5Khz on the 3 151Mhz channels
no more than 2 watts of power from the radio
You could use a classic p110 if you wanted to, granted it was the 2 watt version.

Yes, of course... I have 3 radios that can do it, I talk to board members at dayton with IMBE too, and my dad on occasion. He has two IMBE VHF radios as well. One big happy family.

Of course now after my intial request, it appears that digital scanners are far more prolific.
