No Comms

Did a search for this and could not find any info. I had a XTS 5000 come up and state No Comms. Is this another out of range indication?

I have generally only seen that error with radios that have a bad RF power amplifier...they can see the control channel, but cannot access the system due to no power output. It's also possible to be in a spot where this happens even with a good working power amplifier, I suppose.

From speaking with the Motorola technicians assigned to my trunking system, "No Comms" shows up when the control channel is recievable but is not of enough quality to commuincate on the system. This will usually show up prior to the "Out of Range" indication.

Or, the radio can receive the control channel, but cannot communicate with it. It's not so much an issue of the radio receiving poorly as it is just not able to transmit. It happens a lot with portable units with their low power output.

The radio must have been in a fringe area, I have not encountered any more problems of this nature.

You can also disable this message in programming if you want. Its optional
