cps password bypass...

hey guys, i just needed to get a little more help with this.

real quick... i read wavetars reply to bypassing the cps passwordfor ht1250's in a previous post. i downloaded winhex and did all he explained about the ram editor and trying to change hex bits and stuff. so when i open the ram editor theres two programs at the bottom. one is cps and the other is proradio.exe. ive looked in both of those and theresabout 20-30 more files under each of them. not sure which one to open. each of the above directories has a sub directory with the same name. ive tried that with my "test" codeplug where i put in the password and tried to search but cant find. i did happen to find one "74c1" block and tried to change and it wouldnt let me edit. doing something wrong? im also using cps 06.04.00 any more info would be great! thanks!

You're getting confused...there are two separate methods being talked about in that thread. My method simply involves finding the password in Windows memory using Winhex and some practice with a known password. There is no modification to the CPS at all, and my method has to be used everytime you run across a password protected codeplug.

The second method involves using Hex Workshop or a similar program to edit the actual CPS to not require the password at all. Once you make this modification, you don't need to do it again unless you upgrade to a newer version of CPS. Most people prefer this method as it's a one-time deal.

The programmers in Florida seem to have internet access. They are aware of this hack. They claim they fixed the issue in their newest releases so you can't do it anymore.

It's also possible that the pro series CPS programmers have addressed the issue in their latest releases.

Which hack did they "fix"?, the WinHex RAM reading or the proradio.exe hex edit?
Also, which version are they talking about? 6.09.06 or something up and coming...?

ok i got ya now. but what file do i need to view under the ram editor to search for it? im trying both your methods and cant get too far with either.

ok let's stand back and look at it from a different way, what radio and what's the model number of it that you are trying to do this with. 6.04 is ancient cps too, you need to update that.

ok i have an ht1250ls+ and the model is aah25sdh9dp5an i know the cps is a little outdated but its still able to read the radios i have and this one besides for the password.

if you have other radios with the same model number just write the codeplug from another radio into this one and you won't need to know the password. or where are you located, maybe someone else close can help you out?

no i have no other radios like this or else i would have done that. i dont even need the data in the radio now its useless to me. ive looked on the supercodeplug site and didnt have one for this model. im in newburgh ny. but if anyone has a few min maybe they can just post or email me instructions for this specific model and ver cps. im quite computer literate so i know what im doing, i just dont know where to find all these addresses and files everyone is talking about.

Ok, look... wavetar's right, you're still getting confused. I can't speak to the memory editing hack, but as for the exe file edit hack, I've tried it before, and it is easily accomplished if you follow the instructions. Posting that it's not working, help help help, does nobody any good. If you care to post the specific points at which you're having problems, please do so, otherwise as far as I'm concerned, this thread has run its course.

Oh, and it's not really wise to send a moderator a PM asking them to help you hack CPS...

Edit - Also, don't post multiple topics about the same thing. Like I said above, if you have usefull troubleshooting info to post, do it in this thread.

alright, well if you were to look at the above posts and replies you would see that nobody has sent any sort of information pertaining to what im asking, just that im confused and doing it wrong. thats why ive posted a few. so sorry for beating this up and pm's and everything. i got no help so i guess ill just try and figure it out some more. thanks to all that replied and happy new year to all!

i'm not trying to get down on you here but you say you are computer literate but every bit of instructions to do what you want is very very simple and strait forward and you are new with only 30 posts but have 2 warnings for wanting software and reading between the lines here if you are new and have the cps for the radio then why is your software 2 years old, you obviously didn't get it from motorola. you need to call motorola and oreder the correct cps and get a quote from them on converting your radio. i was new to this once too just like everyone else but i can honestly say if i didn't understand something it was easier if somebody showed me how it was done if i didn't understand the directions.

MikeyC - If you need further assistance, I'd suggest you take a deep breath, maybe consider laying off the caffeine or popping a Valium or something, try to find the SHIFT key and appropriate punctuation keys, and starting a new thread. Working through something like this requires some calm, cool logic... not a bunch of "help help help" posts. I can't even get started trying to help you, because I can't read your posts.
