Astro Saber sounds bad on RX
Hi all, I have a AS III uhf and on all thev freqs it sounds fine except on metro pd the officers sound fine but dispatch is fuzzy like it is off freq or something, i found under radio wide some settings they are: Type analog, securenet and digital. type linear, compression and AGC. output, total. will these affect the rec? and what do these fields need to be set at?
Thanks Steve
Thanks Steve

Found the info, check all three boxes, type is agc, output 0, total is 6. Not sure how much they affect rx if at all.
Re: Astro Saber sounds bad on RX
You have to tell us what's "bad", does it sound bad in analog or digital or both? The AGC settings should help you improve it. But if the voice sounds like "off frequency", then something is not programmed right.
Did you check the bandwidth? How about alignments?

It is in Analog mode it sounds like the base is off freq or over deveating. all others ie: Ham, GMRS and the electric utility.

I recently worked on this unit, these are the freqs hes having trouble with
460.025, 460.150, 460.375 and a few more in that area.
Steve, are these simplex or repeaters?

- What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK
Re: Astro Saber sounds bad on RX
Astro radios are extremely selective to the bandwidth they are set up for and do not like over deviation at all.
If you have the bandwidth programmed wrong, will hear distortion caused by the radio (if it's a 25Khz signal being received on a radio setup for 12.5), clipping of the audio beyond certain limitations.
The same holds true sometimes on the 25Khz channels even when programmed correctly. If the signal is overdeviating, the radio will clip it.
Now, I haven't had these issues with other Moto radios (ie CDM/HT, etc). Just the astros as they have tighter tolerances.
