XTS 5000 DTMF encode?

Post by wcvfd7200 »

Ok... I have done some searching on previous posts and I am a little confused about dtmf tone generation on the XTS5000. Some say yes.....others say no.

Will a FPP vhf XTS5000 Mod.III with host/dsp 6.0 generate DTMF tones on vhf/conventional/analog mode? How about digital mode?

What I mean is, can a phone number be entered via FPP into the radio manually "live" like dialing a phone. Or, does the phone number have to be pre-programmed via FPP/rss into a stored phone list for future access/operation? Does the XTS5000 require software to do any DTMF programming or will FPP work.

The reason I ask is because my vfd is planning to control remote fire/storm sirens, phone patch, and station functions (i.e. open/close bay doors, turn on lights, etc.) via radio. I know 2-tone sequential will not work on version 6.0, but I wonder about DTMF. I have not ordered the tone decoder/controller yet because you must specify 2-tone or DTMF.

Since I'm a little new to the XTS5000, will it do any other type of signaling that could be used in my siren/auto patch/station application if DTMF won't work? Any info. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

All you have to do is hold down the PTT button, and press the DTMF numbers that you want, and then
key off. You can use whatever number sequence you want, and/or store your own via FPP.

Is it possible to convert an XTS5000 Model II to a model III by simply swapping out the keypad and housing?

Thanks,

Joe
