XTL5000 05 Siren
Hi
I have a bunch of XTL5000's with 05 head. We also have a bunch of left over sirens from our Astro Spectra's with the siren control head DEK. Can these be used with the XTL's? If so will any parts need to be replaced/swapped etc? Cosmetically does anyone know if there is a black DEK housing for the XTL's?

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
The astro siren will work with it but the 05 head has no siren controls. I had (I am dumping the 05 head, its sucks a**, going back to w9) a siren dek hooked up with the 05 radio but I was using the special w3/dek siren cable. It worked just fine. I dont know how the dek interfaces with a normal siren setup, I would imagine there is a different style 05 head to dek cable.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
Thanks, do you have a part number or info on the w3 siren cable. I have all w3's except for that one, if I can use one of them for the siren, I would prefer. Then I can just convert the O5 to a w3 or o3.
Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
I have some XTL2500's I ordered with siren.
It is identical to what I hve previously got with the W4 heads execpt a different interface cable.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
Whats the part number of the cable from the head to the dek, no one seems to know that.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
Ditto Jason. i looked on batlabs, but due to the cryptic MOL descriptions, I am not sure its the correct one. I may have to try Part's ID. It seems like it may need a DEK to Y cable, cable, and possibly a different HHCH Y cable.

Is that for the o5 head or the HHCH? 03 or W3

back of O5 head to legacy deck
Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
radioinstl,
DO you know what it would take to use the DEK with the W3 head? I believe it is a different Y cable and legacy DEK to Y cable cable.

Interesting comment about the O5 head.
Could you elaborate more on your feeling about the O5 head?

HKN6145. It runs from the second DB25 to the siren box and then the DEK.
Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
I echo the sentiment that the O5 control head sucks.... I replaced my two XTL5000 W9's (800 and VHF) with and O5 and an O3 earlier this year when I traded vehicles. I had it on good authority that Motorola would not only support multiple heads but also multiple radio with the O series heads (like they do on the W3). I also like the much smaller control cables that the O series heads used and figured that this was the future so why rip the car apart twice...once to install the W9 and then once again to install the new stuff later...BIG MISTAKE. After major headaches (and at least two bottles of Advil) I finally got the new heads to talk to the radios. I know of some guys that got them so bass ackwards that they had to go back to Mother M to get them right. Now that I have them installed.....the O3 is a masterpiece and is really nice....with the exception that it STILL wont do the second radio....come on Motherola....how long will it take you guys! The O5 is positively miserable and I think Motorola knows it. One tech I talked with said they are up to thirty some firmware revisions on the thing...most frustrating thing with it is that there is no Zone Up or Zone Down, only ZONE...and when you depress zone you then have to use the channel selector or the four way pad to change Zone up or down AND then you must hit the home button to store the selection....BUT dont hit it too hard or else you will go back to the HOME CHANNEL...and if you dont hit hard enough and then go to change channels within a Zone, guess what....your still changing ZONES! AARGH>>>>>>>>>>>>>>! I too have a siren DEK on mine and after MUCHO calls did finally get the cable identified in one of the other posts...I then asked about mounting ears to adapt the DEK to the O5 head........what is it your are asking about sir???????, let me transfer you to the product group........... you need what??????...oh they only come in the complete siren kit..........yeah right...........first time I have ever had Parts ID say they gave up.........made my own for now.....
Rant Rant........buttons and knobs are too cramped when you are careening down the road....Motorola claims to have actually produced the O10 control head with all of this integrated together but it was the size of a Panasonic CF29 from what I hear and the customers asked them "whats this S@#T? so they have gone back to drawing board on the O9.....of course to add insult to injury, November 30 was product cancellation on the W9 and I understand that even parts has very little stock........I nailed them at APCO and there answer was that the basic W9 design was 22 years old, having come out with the X9000 Syntor in 1985/6....and they whined that they could not keep it going for ever....my response was, then why have you waited to the last minute to dump is in this ditch???? NO ANSWER..........
I understand that one major issue with the multiple radios is that in the O3/5 series heads, Motorola is using a communications method between the devices that is the same as the Automotive Industry uses for its serial? buss communications....anyone out there shed any light or truth to this???
Any comments or updates that anyone can add very much appreciated....
On another note...I had a local agency give me an XTL5000 UHF radio that had been damaged. In the end to experiment I ordered a new main transceiver board and provided Motorola the appropriate model, serial and flashcode for the replacement. I received a new board, properly configured with older than current firmware (odd) and a serial number already in it! 123ABC1234........they act puzzled to say the least.....any idea on how to change the serial? I am familiar with setting a new board up with the tuner and initializing the board when blank, but never one like this... a firmware refresh fixed the FW problem but still the screwy internal serial.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
Does anyone have the part number for the siren and the DEK? I have the cable but tried using an siren from the astro spectra, 1185e i believe, and the HLN1241D DEK, and have all sort of problems with my w3 XTL5000. Can anyone provide current models and insight as to whether the older stuff might or might not work.
Thanks

Do you have one of the buttons on the DEK programmed as "SIRN", the siren arm button?

Let us know what the part numbers of the siren module, siren cable, dek and dek harness you are using. Pics never hurt either.

the cable from the rear yellow socket on the O5 head to the DEK is the one I listed earlier in this thread.KB9KST wrote:Let us know what the part numbers of the siren module, siren cable, dek and dek harness you are using. Pics never hurt either.

I will get the other part #s later tonight.
THE BIG QUESTION I ASKED WHICH NO ONE HAS ANWSERED IS .... does any one have a working set up as I desribed?????
Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
I had a siren dek hooked up to my O5 unit when I had it. I used the W3 type siren setup though. It worked just fine. Thats the one that has the dek cable coming from the siren itself. I never tried it with the DEK connected to the O5. Just FYI.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
does anyone know the difference between the HLN1439 astro siren and the HLN1185 astro siren? or have a service manual for either?
According to MOL the HLN1185E has been replace by the HLN1439D
According to MOL the HLN1185E has been replace by the HLN1439D
Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
The 1439 is redesigned and much different inside. It also allows direct grounds and dek boxes to control siren functions to the siren box itself instead of going through the radio.
Could this be your issue? I suppose it could. The only way to find out would be to get one. I haven't seen any documentation for the 5k being used with a siren at all.
I doubt this helps but just wanted to add what I know.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
UPDATE!!!!!
did some trouble shooting
1st thing : reprogrammed DEK from siren buttons to Direct Mode entry buttons, same problem, hit buttons nothing happens
reprogrammed DEK to status and message, same thing, hit buttons, nothing happens
Did above test with 2 different DEK's that i confirmed worked on a Astro Spectra.
2nd thing: tested cable running from yellow port on back of O5 head to legacy DEK, tested out ok and was pinned out as listed in O5 service manual.
verified that those pin outs are the same as a old style W style head to dek head cable.
SO THE NEW QUESTION OF THE DAY IS......... DOES ANYONE HAVE A XTL-5000 O5 HEAD REMOTE MOUNT WITH A LEGACY DEK HEAD RUNNING OFF THE YELLOW DEK PORT ON THE BACK OF THE REMOTE HEAD? this can be for anything. siren, status, message, direct mode entry, anything
note!!!! not asking can it be done, asking does someone have one running this set up now that they can actually put there hands on.
thanx again for the help with this problem.

Curious what is the host of your radio? Could possibly be firmware related if its older.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren
Could be a firmware mismatch. CH Version 6.00.01 goes with radio version 11.00.00
CH version 5.00.00 goes with radio version 10.00.00
I would get your radio reflashed with 11.00.00 cvn which will update the control head or you can try the sync ch with radio option in the cps.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren (or "THE XTL problem from HELL)
OK latest update. Radio and head are now matching current Firmware- radio 11.00.00, Head 6.00.01, CPS 11.00.01.
DEK is HLN1241D. All lights on DEK come on when pluged in. Tested good on non O5 head.
NO mater how DEK is programmed (status, message, modeX, Siren controls) nothing happens when you hit a DEK button.
DEK to Control Head cable has been tested and is pinned correct and working.
I am stuck here
AGAIN, DOES ANYONE HAVE A WORKING XTL-5000 O5 HEAD REMOTE MOUNT (any band, any power) with a DEK head connected to the rear yellow DEK port and working. can be for anything (status, message, mode X, siren controls etc) ??????????

I have an XTL5000 V10 Firmware 700/800 with an 05 Control head running V5 Firmware. Radio is tied to legacy dek box (same one from my W9) via an HKN-6-89A cable if my list here is correct. I am using an older HLN1185 siren amp and have had no problems other than i seemed to be draining battery rather quickly...Cable and dek however worked fine.

Re: XTL5000 05 Siren (or "THE XTL problem from HELL)
I have indeed done many of the XTL 5000 and XTL 2500 radios with older Siren and DEK. Here is the thing to note:radioinstl wrote:OK latest update. Radio and head are now matching current Firmware- radio 11.00.00, Head 6.00.01, CPS 11.00.01.

1. The O5 and M5 work fine with the HLN1439 (newer siren box) or the HLN1185E (specifically the E). The old cable, HKN4363* (we are use the C rev of this cable). The old DEK works just fine as well.
2. The O3 only works with the NEW siren/DEK cable HKN6145A and the HLN1439* siren box ( have both B and D in service working fine). The old DEK itself still works here.
3. The cable to DEK that works universally to the various vintages of DEK is the HKN6189A
The reason I say the O3 only works with that combination is that it seems to be specific to the Cable. We have had to also use the HLN1439 siren with the W3 as well because the cable does not seem to be compatible with the HLN1185E.
Someone also mentioned the partnumber for the adapter brackets and they are 0702114Z02.
Thanks,
Blaine

Battery Drain issue
We had the same issue at one time and the radio head has two seperate ignition wires coming out of it on the 05 head. One is for constant hot and other is for ignition. Make sure you wire it as such even if it isn't programmed for ignition. I found this will cause a battery drain issue because the radio body on a remote mount won't go to low power until it sees the head in a different power state.mhodgson wrote:I have an XTL5000 V10 Firmware 700/800 with an 05 Control head running V5 Firmware.
