Astro Spectra deviation adjustment help
I am not very familiar with adjusting the transmit deviation of the astro spectra or astro saber for that matter.
Can someone clue me in on how the deviation level and deviation limit controls work together?
I'm guessing that the larger number equals more deviation?

You will need a service monitor and the Motorola RSS with a RIB or RIBless cable to work on the Astro Spectra
radios. The adjustments are done with the software.
The Astro Saber is the same way.
Do not go into the RSS and just start making adjustments without knowing what your doing or what to change.
You can mess up a working radio in short order.

A service monitor is out of the question. I have the tuner software. Can someone answer my questions.

You need a service monitor to accurately tune the deviation. Without a service monitor there is no way to make the proper adjustments to bring deviation to spec. Deviation is not like transmit power or frequency warp where you can simply move the softpots a little bit.

Look I just need to know what these 2 softpots do compared to the single softpot for the regular spectra.
Does a smaller number here equal less deviation?
I just know that the deviation is set to high.
I don't care about astro or securenet or anything else.
Just someone tell me which way to move these softpots for less deviation.

Since you're not using a service monitor, and you're hacking your radio to hell anyways... why not just bang on the keyboard, figure out a value and use your keen sense of hearing to tell if it's going higher or lower.
Obviously PL and DPL for non-astro, non-securenet doesn't mean anything to you either.

How do you know the deviation is too high without using a service monitor? Are you just guessing? The deviation limit adjustment should be set to 2.83 Khz. The other people here are right, you need a service monitor to do this correctly!
