xts5k PASSWORD RESET
Anyone know any way to reset the CPS read/write password. Apparently I typed the wrong password in and now can rewrite one of my radios. Thanks in advance for any help.

- What radios do you own?: Too many!
Re: xts5k PASSWORD RESET
You can find the password using a hex editor and once you know it, you can disable it.

I can never understand why people insist on using passwords to program radios. If your that worried
about other people playing with radios you have programmed, you might want to think about why they
are going to someone else in the first place.

Indeed, as a dealer we don't password protect any radios that we program. However, I can certainly see a need or desire for public safety users to want that option for their radios.Jim202 wrote:I can never understand why people insist on using passwords to program radios. If your that worried

Radios get stolen.
Databuses are valuable information.
End users try to program their own radios (especially security and tow truck companies).
All of these are more than reason enough to password protect a radio.

Do you think passwording a radio will curtail this?

Do you think putting a lock on your front door will curtail someone misusing or stealing the contents of your home? It's a question of deterrance. Sure, it might not stop everyone, but you can wager it'll probably stop the majority.Jim202 wrote:Do you think passwording a radio will curtail this?escomm wrote:Radios get stolen.

In this case it's a shame that the original shop apparently chose to password protect the radios without disclosing to the customer what the password was (or they did and nobody bothered to write it down). There are one or two ways to get around this legitimately (a trip to the Depot comes to mind) and a few others that are more illicit. Good luck to the OP in getting this resolved.

Read my first post in the following thread:

With some practice you should be able to figure out the password.

Programming support in Florida tells us that hack won't work with the later versions of Astro25 CPS.
