anyone know if a gm300 in the 465-495 range can be taken down to a 438-470 radio? thanks.

Hello:
It will not go completely down to 438 but i have done them out of band down to 462 mhz.
You will see a bit of wattage change and a bit of rx sensitivity loss but its acceptable .

What you can do is find a M120 in the range you want (or another 300 with a bad command board or some other non-RF-board issue), and pull its RF and PA boards and drop in your GM300, then blank and re-initialize the command board as a 438-470 GM300. I did that with a VHF M120 and the command board from a junked 465-495 GM300 to make a VHF GM300, and it worked like a champ.
