VHF/UHF P25 Smartzone and the XTS5000/2500

Post by NSPD »

I'm going to pose this question, and no one get excited because it is JUST a question...

I have heard a few comments about individuals making a VHF or UHF XTS5000/2500 track a P25 Smartzone system by entering dummy transmit frequencies so that the radio cannot affiliate with the system. I realize you would not hear any traffic unless another legit user was affiliated on the tower closest to you...

1 - Does anyone know if this actually works?

2 - Does the RSSI work and vote between sites?

3 - What range of dummy frequencies can be entered and work without CPS errors? (462.500-463.000 FRS) or 144.000-144.500 Ham) etc.

Thanks!

I've only worked with 800MHz P25 radios, but if they cannot affiliate with the system, they do not unmute the speaker, period. I can't think of a reason why it would be different for VHF/UHF...but again, never tried it.

Well, I have heard both...but I default Todd. There was a thread a couple months ago (more focused on the 800 systems) that said if you do the tx inhibt thingy, it works.

I have an ASTRO Spectra that will not affilate to an IMBE SmartZone/SZOL system, and I get all the tower information etc and RX, but of course, if no one is affiated to the towers, you won't hear anything.

They're asking about radios on a true 9600bps P25 system though...no affiliate, no audio.

This thread may or may not shed some light and be relevant. I only skimmed it during lunch
