RCH3000 / Consolette Problem

Post by Cwally1 »

I am trying to use an RCH3000 deskset connected to an Astro Spectra consolette (it is a W9 configured consolette with no control head). I am connecting the two via a Motorola Digital Junction Box utilizing the single "RCH" labeled port. The RCH3000 is configured for ASTRO operation and all buttons function just as programmed. The problem however is this: 1) Upon pressing the "transmit button" on either the handset or face of the RCH, the radio remains keyed up and transmitting until power is cycled. 2) No audio is heard when the radio opens, just a click of the speaker. 3) Transmitted voice on a recieving radio is extremely low and unintelligible. Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you using a straight through cable perhaps? I don't have the manual fot the newer digital junction box in front of me, but believe you need to wire the CAT5 cable differently for the RCH versus the MC3000.

I tried a CAT5 strait through cable wired for use with ethernet and I verified that the colors were the same on both ends as I do have a few that I made myself that are null. Any other thoughts?

That appears to be your problem. According to the manual, it's not a straight through cable, it's a mirrored image like so:

IT WORKS!!!

I did try the mirrored cable and that did NOT work at all; gave me a fail code. Turns out that the problem is that the digital junction box was shipped without the DIP switches properly set. The DJB was set as a slave and not a master, which also changes the switch for the modem. The problem of the transmitter staying keyed was solved by switching DIP switch #6 on the audio control board within the consolette; also shipped without proper configuration. Guess I learned a few things on this one! Thanks for the help though, I do appreciate it.
