MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
Ok so i recently got an MTS2k and it seems i wasnt fully aware of what i was getting myself into, toolproofing and all that mess. Anyway i read about the 5 presses of the side button to get into a service mode trick and i wrote down a few numbers that popped up. Can anyone tell me what these mean.
R 6.14
466IWW4870
001008-000000-0
All help appreciated thanks.

ok, here's what you got from the info you typed in. I know the screen goes pretty quick but if you can give me the H01 number I can tell you what band it is and what features you have.
1. The firmware version you are operating on is 6.14 which means it has NOT been rebanded.
2. The serial number is VERY odd but if it's a legit S/N then it's a European model made in Swinden. (that is what the I is telling me) The radio also came off the assembly line in November of 1996.
3. The feature set you have is Smartzone trunking with radio trace. The radio is still capable of conventional channels just not too many conventional features, like MDC or the like.
Might need someone else to tell you what version of RSS to try to see if it has a pre-toolprof codeplug.

Is non-rebanded a good or bad thing?

- What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000
Re: MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
rebanding only applies to 800MHz models.
do not use LAB to write to that radio, or you risk bricking it.

Is RSS ok to use? I have an older version that i can try until i locate and aquire a copy of the MTS CPS or something that works.
Re: MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
depends on the codeplug of the radio. the last MTS2k DOS I can remember working with MTS2K's was 6.05 but if the unit has already been read by a newer version of RSS or CPS then you have to go to that version at least.

It wouldnt brick if i tried reading with what turned out to be an older version would it?
Re: MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
no, as long as you stay away from and lab tools you should be ok.

Hi 'fire32njetta' , what country are you in?
Reason I ask is that there are have been a few MTS2000's in VHF around at the moment with that flashcode in the UK market.
I've got a Model 1 version in 99% condition (Reserve issue I think) and I use R02.00.01 Windows and it programs fine.

Re: MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
Im in the USA. I cant say where this radio came from i got it off of ebay from a guy who is selling a lot of them. I tried RSS 6.00.00 and it said codeplug too new, but i figured that. I tried RSS 06.04.00 and everytime i tried reading the radio the computer locked up. I know i cant ask where to find or get the MTS CPS on here or i get the boot, but i need to figure something out or send this thing back to the guy and get a ht1000 or something.
When i scroll through the channels some of these names pop up
Leek
Stafford
Cannock
N'Castle (not sure what this is abbreviation of)

Re: MTS2k..what can you tell me about this?
I know where that radio originated. It is one of hundreds of surplussed MTS2000 public service radios from The U.K. (specifically England) which have hit eBay, and elsewhere, lately. I have several of them and they all work perfectly. In fact, one of mine has serial no. 466IWW4872! It was born and assembled the same day as yours, almost side by side...
It is actually a VHF (136-178) "K" model made in the EU and is perfectly useable here in the U.S. with U.S. version CPS. I can guarantee you that R.02.02.00 CPS will program it perfectly (assuming, of course, that there is nothing otherwise wrong with the radio).

Fire32njetta - you clearly need newer programming software. Give Motorola a call, they can send you the licensing agreements.
