Low transmit audio on UHF Saber 2 (H44QXJ7139CN)

Post by N6LAU »

I recentley purchased a UHF Saber 2 Model#H44QXJ7139CN with a 2k board. The bandsplit is 440-470. Much to my dismay the transmit audio on this radio seems to be quite low and has almost a noise cancelling effect. Couldn't find an option in the RSS for mic gain. Is anyone familiar with this unit and do they know if there is some way to make the transmit audio louder? Is there a noise cancelling option that can be disabled? It seems to be a great radio but definitely is lacking the great transmit audio that I expected. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This may sound elementary, but did you try an external speaker mic to compare the audio levels to rule out a possible bad mic element? Also, if you have a way of checking the deviation setting, might lead to further clues to your problem..

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad to say that the problem has been resolved. Adjusting the VCO modulator deviation did the trick. The audio sounds great now! Thanks everyone for all your help.
