XTS 2500 and 5000 Channel Spacing

Post by kato56 »

According to the brochures, the XTS 2500 and XTS 5000 advertised channel spacing is 12.5/25khz for uhf. Is there a way to hex edit the codeplug to change the spacing to accept 20khz spacing???
Here in So. Cal. we have to comply with 20khz spacing on the uhf ham radio band. I've been considering upgrading to a XTS 5k, but want to make sure it will program for 20khz.
Thanks

I assume you are talking about center frequency steps (versus channel bandwidth, since the channel bandwidth for 20 KHz and 25 KHz channels is the same). I am unaware of any way to program 20 KHz splits in a UHF XTS5000, since that split would not yield legal Part 90 UHF channels. The XTS5000 was not designed to meet the needs of hams.

My city XTS5000 also has the city supported repeater on 449.78 programmed into it. I think that you can program in 5kc steps.

I'm not sure of your problem and I'm probably off in left field because of a lack of coffee, even at this time of day, but I just went into the zone field assignments on one of my UHF XTS5000's and selected a 'Tx Opt Transmit deviation' of 4 KHz and it automatically set the OPT channel spacing to 20 KHz.

And I was able to enter in a freq of 449.780 without any problems and the radio seems to work fine on this channel spacing.

Before I invest a bunch of money on a 5k, I just wanted to be sure that I could program frequencies such as 449.780, 447.120, 448.620, etc. that are on a unique channel spacing plan here in Southern California.
The sales brochure is somewhat vague, and I knew I could find out the real story here on Batlabs.

Thanks all who responded...
