Soft ID delay

A friend and I were chatting in Astro P25 mode today and were playing with soft IDs (through the keypad). When I changed my soft ID, he began to see my new soft ID the next time I transmitted, as would be expected. However, when he changed his soft ID, I continued to see his old soft ID for several minutes before his new one showed up. Has anyone ever heard of or experienced this? The specifics: I have an Astro Saber III, he has an XTS3000 III, both have HOST 7/DSP 8, both have 1C5E. We were on UHF, talking through a Quantar. We haven't tried this with any other radios.

It sounds as though your friend was not changing his soft ID properly. There is no such thing as a soft ID delay!

We're both fairly certain that he changed his soft ID some time (at least a couple of minutes) before the change was reflected on my display. We continued to talk back and forth during this time. At one point he even cycled the power on his radio, to no effect; I never did the same to mine, which probably would have been a good idea.

Ah well, we'll keep experimenting. Chances are it will stop behaving this way when we start trying to figure it out

Here are some thoughts, which may be completely off the wall:

1) Does anyone know if how long one transmits affects whether or not the soft id is snet? Meaning, if one does not transmit long enough, is it possible for the soft id to not be sent? I read that the soft id is sent as ASCII in the packet data portion of the P25 message; it wouldn't seem to me that it would take too long to send 8 ASCII characters, but who knows...

2) If the above is possible, is it also possible that my radio was in some way saving his old soft id and associating it with his Astro ID?

This does not explain why it started working without any additional programming or changing. I could be wrong, but it sounds like they were using the radios and after a bit the correct ID started showing up.

I was messing around with two of my astro sabers yesterday and had the same thing happen to me. When I changed my soft id and keyed up it displayed my astro id then my old soft id. When I keyed up a second time it changed to the new new soft id. It almost seems as though it takes the radio a minute (about 15 seconds) to play catch up.

That's the only thing I could figure out. We haven't tried it since then, but I'm guessing that my saber was caching the soft id for a short period and associating it with the other guy's astro id.

Thats about all I could guess that It would be. Ill have to give it a try with my 5k's to see if the faster processor does anything to speed the process up.
