"Proc Ver"

Post by KD7FLY »

Hi...
Okay. I was playing with this XTS5000 my buddy got, hes pretty clueless as to how it works and stuff. All he wants to do is use it for GSAR...and I don't know if that will happen. It is VHF, rugged version, split of 136-174. When you run through the service menu, the last thing that comes up is something called "Proc Version," and then following that is "BRAVO112."

First off: What is the Proc Version, and second what does BRAVO112 mean...? This is killing me, no one seems to know what it is.

Thanks
Josh

there have been two versions of the radio CPU. the BRAVO and RAM.

they are similar - but apparently need different firmware to work properly - which is why the CVN flash upgrade files are important - the CVN (via CPS) loads the correct firmware into the radio depending on the processor type...

i believe RAM is the older processor.... bravo is the newer one.

Okay,
So basically its not that big of a deal then...? It has nothing to do with getting a certain type of programming software, right? I remember reading about this "Alpha" series of radios.

And lastly, what does the "112" have to do with it? I've seen 112, and 122 - does that just have to do with the version?

Thank you for your help!

you are correct - to the end user - it's just not important at all.
