XTS5000 VHF Quick Call II Decode Problem

Post by DC615 »

I'm having a problem setting these up. I've created a long tone that decodes well on the National Weather Services 1050.0 Hz tone, but I can't get the two-tones to decode for my fire house. They are in a non-FPP bank. Can anyone fill me in on the steps to get these to work? Maybe someone that has one set up that can tell me the boxes they have checked. I'm very annoyed.

We use AB-AC format. Tones are input correctly.

Thanks for any help.

Yes it is transmitted with a PL. I may try the CSQ thing though. Every radio I've ever delt with has never had this problem using PL.

Host 11.00.01

I tested it on a off channel encoding with my maxtrac with success. It will not activate with my departments repeater though. I think the repeater is jacked up. They recently moved the voter to a new tower, and now were getting skips from several agencies. Then they made some adjustments to the repeater, I load the tones during all this, and walla; no decode. The maxtracs and minitors are working though, with the maxtracs missing a call here and there. The repeater is a mtr2000 i think.

Sounds like the deviation of the Q/C tones is too low. The XTS5000 is picky and needs a pretty hot Q/C deviation to activate. I think the Q/C deviation needs to be at or above 3K to work properly.

I can set the Q/C deviation to 1K and it triggers the uniden 396 and 996 all day long, but the 5K's needed much higher deviation to trigger.

Food for thought.....

Dan,

I can test this. Email me a copy of the codeplug and I will test in on the bench next week to see what level they open at.

Also are you in CSQ as asked? Some consoles strip PL when sending paging tones.
