Best XTS5k QC pager setting?

Post by Pj »

I am playing around with a few different setups, but not happy with the results so far.

Doing an A/B tone, would like the keep the radio muted on the channel until the QC is rx. Presently it will unmute on the proper tone set, but you only get 2 quick beeps with a "Call RX" on the screen and thats it (and the audio is now unmuted).

Essentially, I would like this channel (setup as RX only) to operate like a minitor.

I was able to get it to alert the way I wanted it to, but the audio stayed open the whole time.

Firmware 10, CPS 11, 1st generation FPP flash.

Do you want the radio to reset after the dispatch information is sent out?

If so... set the Sel Call/In-Call Reset to Auto and set the timer for however long the dispatch is. Or you can have it reset after the carrier drops, at which point you set it for Auto w/ Carr and set the timer for 2 seconds.

Those settings are on the advanced tab on each Quick Call system.

I use Auto w/ Carrier with a 1 second timer. A call goes out, radio goes <BEEP> <BEEP> opens up so I can hear the dispatch and once it is completed the radio resets after 1 second.

I'd like it to cycle thru the beeps until a key is pressed, and the audio left open after the page until its manually reset.

Radio Wide-> Call alert tone auto reset is currently unchecked

QCII -> Sel Cal/In-Call Rest was Auto w/Carrier, now changed to manual (should solve that problem)

Personality>QC - Decode - Selective Call Decode is set to AND

When it was selected to Call Alert Decode, the beeps came how I liked them, but the audio stayed unmuted.

I am thinking the change from Auto to manual should fix it, we shall see

Setting it to AND with the Manual reset should work it all out for ya. I'll send you my CP if you want to try it out...

Not sure if this helps, but the XTS metaphor for QC contemplates two different uses.

As a simple tone pager, it will keep beeping until reset, usually by pressing any button. On Conventional Personality|MDC, check "Call Alert Decode" and leave "Selective Call Decode" unchecked.

As a voice pager, it only beeps once or twice, then opens for dispatch audio until either reset manually or reset by a timer. Same place: check "Selective Call Decode" and leave "Call Alert Decode" unchecked.

I have been reading the posts and I am still having trouble getting the QC to work. I would like to have it setup to beep and open for voice. I would also like it to stay open until manually reset. If someone would be willing to quickly walk through the steps to set up the QC option it would be appreciated. I am running an XTS500 running ver 9.0. Thanks.

I'm playing with different settings right now.

The one that I have working will do a "call recieved" and beep twice and keep the audio open until you hit a button.

As for the contiunous beeping, I believe I just need to swap settings as RKG mentioned above. Off hand I don't have what I have clicked on right now.

Essentially, its pretty easy.

It would be easier if all of the settings were in the same place, and if the help file were a bit more fullsome on the various ways in which the function might be used and how to achieve them. One shouldn't have to become fluent with this feature the hard way.

Except that, unless the heat is getting to me, I don't recall that you can combine continuous (until killed) beeps with CA plus voice. That is to say, you either get a beep pager or a voice pager, but not both.

If it helps, what we do for the officers' "take home radios" is to create a separate channel on the dispatch frequency. It is set for CA with voice, and the unmute condition as "AND" (so that this channel does not hear regular dispatch channel, in which no one's wife would allow it to remain on at home). The user is told to crank the volume up high enough to wake you if it goes off during the night. The reset timer is set correspondingly long (couple of minutes). The point is that those with call-back responsibilities get notice of the event via the pager, in order to save Fire Alarm the hassle of making numerous phone calls in the middle of the night.

I'd love to be commissioned to write a new flow diagram for QC programming, but the limitations appear to go all the way back to Saber (perhaps further), and I seriously doubt that Motorola would be willing to rewrite the software for greater flexibility at this point.

Try setting it like this, and set a side button or a menu button to "Voice mute". This will make it work like a pager, allowing you to mute the audio with a press of the V-mute button.. When the tones drop, I get about 6 beeps from the radio and "call recved" on the display then the dispatch follows.

Worked great, thanks for the help. Its too bad you can't do MDC on a "pager" channel. Anyhow I now have another problem. One of the tones is not a QC tone. It uses two tones but a zetron tone generator. The problem with this is, the tones follow a 1sec 1sec setup rather than a 1sec 3sec. Does anyone know how to work around this, and is it possible?
