Saber DTMF inaudible

Post by ke4zdg »

One of my friends put up an IRLP node at his house and I was going to program up my Sabers to use the local repeater to dial up his node. When I program the autodial in my Saber and transmit it, the radio keys up, but no DTMF tones are heard. It's staying keyed up like it's trying to send the tones, but nothing comes through.

My sidetone volume is set for B0, and my delays all look fine in the service menu. Is there another menu I'm missing that sets the DTMF deviation? Should I go higher than B0 for the sidetone volume?

Thanks,

Jared

Are you sure the tones actually aren't being transmitted, or are you just not hearing them through the speaker? IIRC, although I could be wrong, the sidetone volume is just how loud the tones sound through the speaker while sending them.

IIRC (again), there is indeed a place to set the DTMF deviation, although I don't recall exactly how to access it, except that it should be under the F2 "service" menu.

I monitored the TX with another radio. No tones. And I didn't find anything in any of the service menus.

I read something about the DTMF chip has to be connected to the mic with a ribbon cable. I will disassemble the radio tonight and check that out.

What you are referring to is a three conductor ribbon cable that runs from the microphone element in the front shield assembly to the memory/display board in the front shield. Also, as I don't know which you have, be aware that this cable is only present in the regular Saber, not in the Systems Saber.

Well, I figured out why manual DTMF entry doesn't work. I forgot that I put a Saber II in a Saber III case. Anyway, the autodial/access/hangup codes don't work. The TX holds out like it's trying to transmit something, but no audio. Looks like there is only 4 conductors going to the speaker/mic assembly. Anybody got an idea where I can tap onto the board to pickup DTMF audio?
