Help with MDC on XTS 1500

Post by kd5vou »

I am sorry if this has already been covered, I was unable to find anything with the search.

I am able to get my XTS 1500's to encode MDC so that I can decode the alias on the XTS 2500's I have. I am not able to decode the MDC on the XTS 1500's when transmitted for either another 1500 ot 2500.
I am not sure if I don't have something turned on in the software on the 1500. I copied the same MDC info and alias database into the 1500's as I had in the 2500's.

Hope that makes sence.

What's the flash code and firmware revision of the radio? (hit the bottom button under PTT 5 times upon powering up the radio - type out whatever the screen shows you here).

It may also be worthwhile to go in to the display settings on the radio, and then the far most tab, and make sure the settings aren't at 0. If set for 0, the radio will decode, but you probably won't see the ID.

Flashcode 100001-000000-7
I checked the PPT ID tab and the checked both ID Display and Scan Id Display like the 2500's. I also changed the EOVT to 2sec like the 2500's. Still no luck. It will encode but will not decode.

Thanks for the help

Your problem is with the flash code. The radio needs to be flashed with Digital ID Display. Your flashcodes on your 2500's probably read something like 500001-00000-1. The first bit is were the Digital ID Display feature is.

That's not always true with the newer portables, some 2500s that decode have the flash start with "1". If he can access the menu options then the radio more than likely supports it.

What host/dsp is in the radio? Is it old perhaps?

Flash on the 2500's are 1000010000043. HOST R10.00.00 DSP R10.00.00
Info on the 1500's HOST R10.00.00 DSP R10.00.00
All of these are brand new radios. I have already found the user programmable scan function that Motorola says you can not do on hte 1500's. I have been able to place the alias name on the display on the 1500's just like the local Motorola shop says you can not do. Just thought I could get the MDC working somehow. If not no big deal, just a cool function.

thanks

I too have a 1500 (1.5) and the flashcode is 500008-000410-5 which shows that it should have H14 the digital display. But I cannot get it to display and MDC ID. The transmit MDC works fine but I must be missing something in the software to get the display to work. The display is working to show Zones, Alias, Channel Names, etc. I am using R12 CPS any idea of what I am doing wrong?

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Thanks Marc, I had those checked but it didn't make a difference. It does work for the ASTRO although I understand that's not MDC.

Also, make sure in your Zone setup, that the channel that you want the MDC on is assigned to the correct conventional personality that has MDC set as the signaling type..

Marc and all Thanks for the help after looking at the snapshot Marc sent over and over I noticed the End of Voice timer on my was set (By Default) to zero. Makes sense that you can turn MDC on all you want but it choose to display for a duration of "0" then nothing will be seen. Makes one wonder why you would want a 0 duration when you can simply disable decode.

It makes a difference, if your the radios are using pre or post MDC.

If its post, 0 might left you see the ID for a split second, but doubt it. Repeater hangtime also plays into this as well.

If its pre, then the ID will stay on the display, then shut right off at the carrier drop.

Basically, 0 is good if eveyone is using pre, anything other than 0 is good if people are using post.
