XTL2500 and 5000 Heads

Post by FMROB »

Hello all, a couple of questions

1. Can I install a 03 Hand Held Control Head on a XTL2500?

2. I have an XTL5000 with an 05 Head. Can it easily be changed to a 03 head with just proper parts and changing the head tpy in the software?

Thanks, Rob

1. You can not install an O3 head on a XTL2500 - the radio does not support the O3/O5 heads - only the M5 control head. There doesn't seem to be anything different electronically between the M5 and O5 heads, just software saying I'm a M5 or O5.

2. If the radio currently has an O5 head, you can do the following:

a) Just hook up the O3 directly to the radio
i.) you'll need to provide ignition sense to the rear connector, which will also break out your speaker connection.

b) You can buy an extension cable set which breaks out ignition sense as well as speaker audio.

You do not need to reprogram the radio when going from O5 to O3, just plug in and go (ensuring you also plug in the accessory connector). You may need to setup the side buttons in the software, but really short of that there isn't anything super different that should be required.
