Q53 5k

Post by fire_master_21 »

I know that if I use anything over cps 9 that I will possibly lose my Q52 in my radio. How much am I looking at to add Q53 so I can upgrade to FW 12 and cps 12. This is not a hack job and has tags.

Yep, anything over CPS 9 will disable FPP if you only have Q52.

Think twice about having Q53 installed so you can use CPS 10,11 and beyond..... Even with Q52 and Q52 and CPS10+, you will loose the ability to have multiple MDC profiles in the first 240 channels. Not sure why they only allow 1 MDC for the first 240 channels, but that's how it is for CPS 10,11,12.

We need to find a hack to allow CPS 10,11,12 to work with Q52 radios. The CPS is taking FPP out of the menu once written to radio. If we could find out where the CPS nops FPP from the menu, we all could use current CPS with Q52 only radios. I think it's possable to do this, but haven't had the time to look into it yet.

Cheers

Actually, depends on the flash code. I have the 1st generation FPP flash that was common. Radio was updated to FW 10 (before we knew better) and CPS 12.

CPS shows the radio as a Q52/Q53 radio, and FPP works just fine.

Limitiations are you can only use 1 MDC and 1 ASTRO system on those first 240 channels. Channels 241 & up can be configured normally, but are obvisouly not FPP channels.

You can delete as many zones as you want - for example - you could delete the last 13 zones which would leave the first 2 zones of 16 personalities each FPP enabled, but the rest of the radio you can program as you wish with as many MDC or Astro Systems that you want. This works on a radio with Q52 and Q53 with CPS 12.

Or to paraphrase, the 1 MDC and 1 Astro system limitation applies only to zones that are configured as FPP. FPP-enabled zones require the 1 mode -> 1 personality correlation, the modes used cannot be reused anywhere in the radio, and they can only be assigned to one Astro and one MDC system. Still with me? ;p

However, with CPS and firmware R11 and up, you can set fewer than 15 zones to FPP, and configure the non-FPP zones any ol' way you like. For example, I have my VHF 5k set to FPP only the first 3 zones and the rest of the radio (up to 45 zones) is software-programmed with only one mode to a zone. I don't know the exact details off the top of my head, but the flash is a barebones Q52/Q53/conventional load, the firmware is R11.xx.xx, and the CPS is version 12.
