CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
Evening all,
A buddy of mine owns CDM1550 and when he was programming it, he said that EEPRM CS ERROR appeared on the screen. I told him to simply rewrite the codeplug. He says whenever he rewrites the radio, he gets a Microsoft Error Report message and the CPS closes. I do not know how to help him with this problem, (I'm guessing it's a software issue) so I told him I'd post the question here and see if I get any responses. I believe he's using 06.01.00.
Problem here is that rewriting the radio should work, but the software doesn't get a chance to fully rewrite without Microsoft closing the program for some reason. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
definately start with new cps then open a basic codeplug with only one personality in it so if it does start to write if will do it real fast, then after you get rid of the cs error you can write a bigger codeplug to it. you can usually get the radio back with that error

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
That's a very good idea! I didn't think of that. When you say "new CPS" do you mean a newer version? If so, neither myself or my friend have access to newer CPS...

He says he tried a One-Channel/One-Zone codeplug with the same results - no luck.

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
If you try to write a previously saved codeplug back into the radio and it doesn't work, you are probably screwed. The only thing you might try is adjusting the com port settings (speed and FIFO buffers). But chances are it is bricked. The only official way to recover the radio is sending it to the Motorola repair depot and giving them a few hundred dollars.
The not-so-official fix is using the "inofficial labtool" (I didn't come up with that name) which will blast over any and all existing firmware, software and hardware settings. It will put in a relatively recent firmware and default the codeplug. IMPORTANT: It will also wipe out the tuner settings. If you do not have your tuner settings saved, you are screwed again. You will need to have the radio properly tuned and most people don't have that kind of equipment. You might need to take it to a local Motorola shop to get tuned for ~$75 but that is better than $300 for a depot visit. If you do have the tuner settings saved, you can just re-write them.

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
Sounds to me like he needs to upgrade his software as well. R06.01.00 is old-school.
R06.10.02 is what's current, I believe. At least that's what I DL'd from MOL last month anways.

Just upgraded to R06.10.02 with no luck... Same message appears upon writing the radio.

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
it probablly won't work the first time or even the tenth thime and it may take a hundred times but you can usually get those back. i've probablly done a hundred of them and maybe three of them never came back.

Re: CDM1550 EEPRM CS ERROR
Our shop has had several 'EEPRM CS ERROR' CDMs come through the door, and most have been well under 6 months old.
We tried writing to them with fresh codeplugs and even flashing, but all to no avail.
Being an MSS, we do not have 'secret' labtool or anything of that ilk, just your fresh and not so fresh versions of CPS to work with.
In all cases, the radio has had to be shipped to Circle-M and wait.
Not even a flash uplift in addition to the rewrite will cure these problems for us.
I think the 'advantage' of being an MSS isn't all it's cracked up to be*laughing*.

So tell the rest of us how you solved the problem. A little information goes a long way.
