You can go into the mic itself, and desoder the wire that goes to the metal clip, and soder it right to the ground wire. This works really wellOn 2001-11-12 15:46, sheriffjimmylee wrote:
Just wondering if there is a way to scan with the radio while it is not on the hang-up clip. I know I can wrap a bare wire around the mic to ground it out, but I'm not to fond of that idea. If there is any modifications to do this let me know...thanks!

Its been a while, but I believe the sense wire is gray, and the ground is the standard black.

On some older radios I've run into (not just /\/\), the radio won't transmit at all with the mic grounded in the holder.
Most of the mics tie PTT to ground, and the PTT switch normally has an unused normally closed pole, with the ground on the common terminal, and the PTT on the normally open pole.
My favorite trick is to remove the monitor line from the rear contact in the microphone, and attach it to the normally closed pole on the PTT switch.
When the mic is unkeyed, the monitor line is grounded through the PTT switch. When you depress the switch half way (because the switch is break-before make), you can monitor, and with the PTT fully depressed, the monitor line is lifted, the PTT is grounded, and the radio transmits.
Just my .02
