XTS3000 Latest Firmware Question & Used Equipment Question?

Post by W2GLD »

Hello all,

Does anyone know what the latest revision host/dsp/ucm is for the Motorola XTS3000 model???

Also, what is an acceptable going rate for a UHF Model III, in band split: 403 to 470MHz., with a flashcode of: 599108-1C5E00-1, in good to excellent condition???

Finally, is there anything I should consider about this model before purchasing a used one, besides whether it's M.I.A. (stolen) from an agency???

Thank you all in advance for your assistance!

Regards,

If it has that flash, known as a whore flash, you need to make sure the unit is properly aligned. The process of it getting that flashcode shoved in can quite easily erase all the factory tuning data if not done properly, requireing a full re-alignment. Latest host was 7.71 and dsp 8.03.03 for a while, I believe there is a minor revision newer, like 7.71.01 or something out now.

When purchasing a radio that contains the flashcode 591008-4F1E00-9 or 599108-1C5E00-1, it should ALWAYS be assumed that the radio needs a COMPLETE alignment. General Dynamics Autotest being the most ideal method of alignment since it's automatic and precise, but a manual alignment is better than nothing.

It should also be assumed if you buy one of these radios that there are several other radios out there that contain the same serial number. It would be wise for you to physically mark the radio with a serial number of your own so if the radio is lost or stolen, you have a unique identifier to provide to the authorities, as most of these radios have duplicated serial numbers.

In a perfect world, there shouldn't be ANY agencies out there using portables with either of those flashcodes. I've never seen any in public safety use, however, this is not a perfect world.

Thank you all who have replied.

I though that the only "Whore Flash" was the one put out by that fellow "Nick" years ago which was the "591008-4F1E00-9" flash code. Now this other flashcode is a "Whore Flash" as well??? How can this be since I have seen this exact flashcode in several public-safety radios over the years???

If this is a "Whore Flash" I guess that means I would be S.O.L. for getting depot support and future firmware upgrades then as well, correct???

Another question, I noticed that firmware revisions higher than R07.71.00 may have required an LCD swap, is this true, or was this only an issue for certain models???

Thanks again for all of the replies, good information to be aware of and I appreciate it!

6.71.00 is the current 9600 bps firmware.

I thought I posted the release notes here, maybe it was someone else, I can't find them now but I do recall it had something to do with trunking. The notes also stated it wasn't necessary to upgrade if trunking wasn't being used...
