Schaumburg, IL. 60196 EXPIRES: 31-Oct-09
Version: R.01.01.00 Page 1 of 2
BULLETIN TYPE: Warranty Service

MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
XTS 5000 radios manufactured or shipped from October 2002 to January 2005 (represented by serial numbers
xxxCCUxxxx through xxxCFBxxxx).
SYMPTOM:
One or more of the following symptoms may be observed.
1) The PTT button ‘sticks’ (stays down). In some cases, this may be seen as a constant transmit.
2) Multiple keys / de-keys within a single PTT button press.
3) Loss of side button function, including PTT button. May be seen as no transmit.
Note 1: These symptoms will not be exhibited when using remote PTT accessories, such as remote speaker

CAUSE:
A small percentage of front covers fabricated in these time ranges show a decreased resistance to damage caused by high force or high cycle button actuation.

Warranty replacement front covers can be ordered from the Aftermarket and Accessories Division, AAD (1-800-422-4210) by referencing the radio’s serial number and this FSB when submitting the order. See Table 1 for a list of the replacement front cover kit part numbers. SEVERITY RECOMMENDATION:
Low – Perform when system exhibits the above symptoms.

Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
Is there any similar FSB notices like this relating to issues with the PTT for the XTS3000 models?
Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
None that I have ever come across. The 3k and 5k, although the same formfactor, can not be interchanged, so other than wear and tear, I'd doubt a similar problem exists.

Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
Looking for a little clarification...
One of my radios falls under this bulletin per the serial number. Does Motorola cover the expense for replacing the housing? The effected radio I have is FM approved, so it would have to go to the depot, would they also update the firmware at the same time?
Thanks

If I read it correctly earlier, if you have a properly tagged radio within that range, you should be able to ship it to the correct address, with a copy of the FSB inside, and your good to go. Just state your problem.
When you see FSB's that state "warranty coverage", it should be no cost to the customer, even if the radio is out of warranty.
I have had out of warranty units and they have been covered as stated above.

Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
Any chance I would get a firmware update at the same time?
Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
Most likely it would get a firmware and PM work done.
Pretty much anything that goes thru the depot is done that way.
I had a MW800 that went to the depot not too long ago for a $5 part on a FSB - and came back with new shields, new flex, new harddrive, current firmware and current software image.

Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
my local MSS (Diversified Electronics) replaced one for me on the spot last month, even though my XTS5000 VHF was out of warranty, per the FSB. Good reason to have a properly tagged radio and a good MSS...

just wait until (insert hamfest name here)
when there are boxes and boxes of "excellent condition" "slightly used" XTS 5000 front shields
or worse, they'll end up on ebay

Re: FSB10247-XTS 5000 Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Side Button Issues
We have about a thousand radios that fall under this serial number range. We have had 3 Fire FM radios fail and no PD normal radios fail so far.
