XTS5000 on-screen distortion and "barcoding"

Post by KD7FLY »

This happens from time to time...sometimes the screen's text simply reverses, and other times the screen goes completely blank.

Or it does this:

Its kind of funny, but does anyone know why it does this? It usually starts after Ive covered the on board speaker to quiet down the audio.

Does it do it more so when you key the radio up, or just randomly without even touching the radio?

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Yep, check your flex, if its plugged in fine, examine the actual flex that goes to the screen, I have seen flex cable tracks cracked before

Having the wrong screen in the radio will also cause this. Verify it's got the correct screen installed.

C01 - older 800 5000's (using the older NTN9564 vocon) and 800 2500's.
C02 display is for VHF 5K's and 800 5K's using the "new" NNTN4717 vocon.
C03 XTS5000 UHF Range 1 & 2
C04 display is specifically for the XTS2500 VHF/R1-R2 UHF

Marc-
Sometimes, but that's usually when I have one of the accessories plugged into the side.

Everyone else-
The flex issue makes sense. The radio shows no signs of terrible damage though, its pretty much clean except for the scratches I gave it.
I was on the line with a local radio shop today and brought it up in conversation, and I believe they said it might have something to do with the logic board?

Found out how to "find out."
