CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
Good morning,
I am currently working on a CEB / BIM issue that I could use some assistance on.
We have a VHF quantar that we have set up as an 8 channel basestation.
We have it connected correctly all the way to the CEB, and we have the appropriate T8R8 resource on the Gold Elite Console.
The original BIM that we had would only allow us to select the first 4 channels on the quantar.
However, we have another BIM that we know works with 8 channels.
We took the 8 chan bim, changed its address to the VHF bim, and plugged it in.
VOILA it works!
Also we have put an audio set on the line at the quantar end, and only on the known 8 chan bim, to we get all 8 tones down the line. The others, we obviously only get 4.
So I am curious what we need to do to either:
a) Modify a current bim to send all 8 tones down the line?
b) Can we purchase a BIM from motorola that does 8 chan, and if we can, what are the options that need to be on that board when we go to order it?
Thanks for the help.

Also, for informational purposes:
It is a B1840A, all the firmware is the same as the other boards, updated 2005.

Re: CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
Ok, so we have made some progress:
After starting up another OP, and loading the config, we found that it WOULD select all 8 channels on the original BIM.
I then checked 3 more ops, and the WOULD NOT select more than 4 chan.
So I have 1 that WILL select 8 channels on BOTH BIMs, and 4 that will only select 8 on 1 bim, and 4 on the other.
CRAZY I KNOW!!!
So our first thought is to mupl the COIMs for the test consoles.
Any other thoughts?

As long as your coim is set up for it, just restart each op with the new .ELT profile.
Each op will "refresh" the COIM with the new base node type.
Until the COIM has been refreshed with the new CDM database, it will still treat the BIM as the old base node type.

Ahhh, you are incorrect.
I thought the same thing.
I have to do a PersProm update.
I just found out that I have too go adjust the "maximum available resources" up or down 1, which will force a PersProm update.
Without that update, it wont update the COIM or anything else.
And yes, I did try just reloading the .ELT file. It updated the DBase, but not a PersProm updage.
Thanks for the help though!

Unless it's a firmware / software revision issue... it works here as I stated.
Prior to exiting CDM, I save and Export. Then as I exit CDM, it auto creates a persprom.
Once the OP logs off, then on, it reloads the coim. Takes a few minutes for the upload, but everything works afterwards.
I don't know what would be different for you.

I have seen similar issues where making a small change such as changing the name of a frequency of a multi channel conventional base does not force the OP to resync.
I think what happens is that these items are stored in what used to be called the EEPROM area rather than the PERS PROM area. When the OP starts up it checks to see if there is a change in the PERS PROM area by comparing the PERS PROM checksum to its stored value. A change in checksum forces the reload dialog.
Changing the maximum number of resources up or down would definitely alter the PERS PROM area thus forcing the OP to want to resync on the next startup.
This issue may only affect certain versions.

Ok, so that didnt work completely either.
I forced a PERSPROM update and its 50/50.
I have an OP that DOES work now with all 8 channels.
But I have 2 ops that did the update that DONT work with all 8 channels.
So I am still at a loss.

Re: CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
On the OP's that don't work - are all eight channel names available but only four work?
Or, are only the original four channel names available?
After you changed the BIM to be an 8 channel capable radio resource in the CDM did you go into the Elite Admin and add those channel [dispatch] capabilities to each operator's configuration file and then save each file to the correct directory for the corresponding OP?
If you are using a common configuration for all operators, it's possible that the access paths need to be verified in Elite Config.

xmo,
I am using a common config file.
And I can see all 8 names, it will only let me pick the first 4.
I didnt think about this until earlier, but I think I need to MUPL the COIM.
Problem is that I am in the middle of upgrading from 7.1 to 7.4, so I dont want to get in the motorola UO tech's way. The CEBs for the old stuff are past the new stuff, so I would be bumping into them everytime.

Does anyone remember where you go to name the channels after youve setup the base radio from a single channel to a multichannel? I cant seem to find it in the software.

Open CDM
Click on the multi channel resource
Click "Capabilities"
Click "Dispatch Capabilities"
Double Click "Freq[xx]" under "Capabilities Assigned"
Once you enter the name, be sure to click the checkmark to store the new name.
Save before exit, reload the OP position...

Re: CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
Thanks much appreaciated.
We are looking at adding another channel to the console as well. The local public works is switching from VHF to a UHF Mototrbo system. Radio vendor is using the existing boards (and new tone control) leaving the VHF MTR2000 and old tone control in the rack with no power. Does anyone know what is needed to reconnect this radio to console?
Plan is to free up another resource that is currently in the console as a multichannel. I know I need the AUX 1 board with the B1840A to make the MDC work, but anything else? I found those online for about $350 so far used...do I need a MDC modem I saw in a different post? We currently only decode two radios in the console so far. I would like to have that radio available, it seems like a shame to shut it off and waste it. Any help would be great.

Re: CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
So I have taken a single channel MTR2000 and turned it into a multi channel base and added 4 channels. I changed it to a t8 non signalling, defined the channel names in the CDM. All 3 op's have downloaded the new configuration. The issue is when you select any channel other than the first (orignal) it does not rec or tx. I went into the cps for the MTR and added the channels and changed the TRC commands and the first line is set to select and the 2nd line TX when LLGT recieved. All changes were accepted by all 3 op stations download new databases. I have an additional MTR in the rack that has the exact settings...What did I miss?

Re: CEB BIM 1, 4, & 8 Channel Selection for Gold Elite
What tone plan are you using?
T8 Standard (from a console) is:
1950 - Channel 1
1850 - Channel 2
1750 - Channel 7
1650 - Channel 8
1550 -
1450 -
1350 - Channel 3
1250 - Channel 4
1150 - Channel 5
1050 - Channel 6
Is the MTR set-up this way? I'm guessing you went from top to bottom assigning Ch1-Ch8 in order.
