XTS5000 MDC Question

Post by w2sjw »

Guys,

I've been playing around a bit lately with the MDC decode settings of both of my 5000's. Most public safety users around here are using it on un-key, and they seem to be using standard timing settings. My radios still give me a little 'squawk' at the very beginning of the burst, but mute the other 60%-70% of it. Is there a setting in there that would mute the entire burst? I know the trick to working the DOS delay on key-up (mine's at 276ms by default, my buddy said try 300), but I don't see any type of control in the CPS for the other way.

Thanks in advance...

That's the only way I know how to do it. Try bumping the coast to or above 300ms like your friend said. If that doesn't work, just play with it for an hour or so until you get it to where you want it to be.

I'll go try it myself. I've never wanted to completely eliminate the chirp...only cut the coast time way down so the chirp is a bit longer.

Coast time does not make a difference.
All it does is increase or decrease the time after an MDC Data burst.
I tried it at 300.0, 0.00, and some where near 1000, with no difference. Honestly, I don't really know if there is a way to set this up. I know data bursts on my HT1250 and my 5K are completely different...and I have never seen it in any CPS/RSS before.

I've got a few friends who are "obsessed" with the astro series radios. I'll shoot a message out to them tonight about it.

This is going to bug me now. :)

By the way- sorry if I misled you with all of that.

I've noticed if you send a 1 or 2 preamble bits, MDC mutes properly on the other Astro. Now try to convince the PD they need to add a few preambles on their portables so your radio will mute properly. 8)
