Change dash-mount Astro Spectra to remote

Post by hobbes »

I have a W5 dash-mount Astro Spectra. With the regular Spectra, I was able to take a dash-mount unit, pop the control head off, and use an interface kit to convert it to a remote mount. Could I use the same parts (from the old Spectra - don't have the part #s handy at the moment) to do the same thing to the Astro?

Mostly. You can use the non-astro interconnect board (the dual DB-25 piece that plugs into the radio), but you won't be able to flash or keyload. The proper way is to replace the front - I don't have the part number handy, but I'm sure someone will provide it.

Flash and keyload I'm not too worried about (figure I could always put it back to flash, and it's not secure-capable anyway). Would both DB25 ports then work? Need one for the remote cable (also from regular spectra - same part #s) and one for adding siren/pa module later on.
