How can I tell what band a VRM is? Serial #?

Post by dweiner »

I am looking at buying a used VRM for a small police department I work for. The one we have in the car died and new ones are outrageous. I am looking at the Motorola VRM 650. Our system is on UHF. I have found 1, but the seller is a 3rd party and has no idea what band it operates on. Any help anyone can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks

I can not help you with the band. Most data systems are on 800Mhz. The VRM650 had to be ordered for the data protocol in use (MDC, RDLAP9600, RDLAP19200). You would be better off looking for a VRM850 since you can set it up for the protocol you use.

Also there is no longer support for the VRM650 from Mexi Motorola.

The model number (starts with F) should give you the band. I jotted these down some time ago--

F3451A - UHF
F3454A - 800
