Interesting Astro Spectra problem

Post by matt_tjaden »

Here is a good one,
Today my Astro Spectra #1 stopped passing rx audio. But if I turn on my VRS I can hear all the rx traffic on my portable. I have changed speakers, that was not it. Finaly I swapped VOCONs with radio #2, same band, and the audio would work. I placed the VOCON from radio 1 into radio 2 and still have the same problem, but the VRS will still pass the audio to the porable.

radio 1, the one with the problem:
D04KKH9PW7AN
R111000
N080206
599108-145E00-0

Any ideas?

From your troubleshooting it sounds like a bad vocon. TVSJR had a similar issue not too long ago and found the only way to resolve it was to swap the vocon out completely. I guess after a while they go bad. You can always try doing a firmware upgrade on the vocon to see if that fixes it.

Just to be sure - has there been any other issues with the radio or have there been any recent changes?

My particular issue was no TX deviation (about 80Hz when aligning dev limit when the softpots were adjusted to max). Swapped the vocon, no problem.

Firmware update did not resolve the issue, either.

The problem I have is the other VHF radio I have is a W5 model with the most basic flashcode you can get. I do have a spair VOCON from an 800MHZ AS but I'm not sure what I would have to do to make it work in the radio. Also, the 145E flashcode, is this the one that has bugs in it?
