XTS2500 Development Firmware Upgrade

Post by d119 »

Hi Group,

I have an XTS 2500 on my desk that belongs to one of our customers that has a development codeplug and firmware in it. Yes, it's legitimate, they got the radio from Motorola, not on the internet.

I'm trying to do a firmware uplift on it so that it doesn't need special software to program it, but when using ASTRO25 R12 software, I get a bunch of noise from the software that it can't do this, it can't do that, and it errors out.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to upgrade the firmware on this? It's a 4MEG radio, so IIRC, the maximum firmware it can accept is something like R09.00.03 or something.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

If it uses the Beta CPS the only way to uplift the firmware is via the Beta CPS.

That's pretty much what I figured. OK, that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks Mark.

Try CPS R9 then, CPS R12 might not understand a radio that can handle R9 the most. As you know it, if you can use regular CPS to read/write, than you have a good chance of bumping the firmware up.

Just a thought

CPS 12 has absolutely no problem understanding a non-development codeplug with previous firmware, even on a 4meg radio. If the radio really and truly has a development codeplug, stock CPS will not talk to it, period.

To the OP:

If the radio is legit, send it to the depot and request a firmware refresh. They should be able to correct both issues for you.

Interestingly enough, using the BETA CPS, we were able to get the radio DSP upgraded, but the host would not budge.

Being that these ARE legitimate radios (with legitimate physical serial numbers), I did just that and suggested to the customer that the radios be sent to the depot for firmware upgrades (which means they will probably come back as 8MEG radios).

Thanks.
