One of the officers from one of our local police departments has been experiencing a strange problem with his XTS 2500. At random times during the middle of transmissions as well as when intially keying up the radio it emits a steady error tone and will not transmit. According to the officer this only occurs on one channel, their main dispatch channel. The radio is a model 1.5 and is running host/dsp 10 and the officer states the battery is in good shape and still holds a good charge.
Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Is it indicative of some sort of hardware failure?

First off, get rid of that version 10 firmware. It has tons of bugs.

Conventional or trunked?
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

It's conventional

Does the display show any errors?
What is the RF split of the radio, and does the frequency in question fall within it, and/or is it at the lower or upper edge?
When was the last time the radio was benched?

According to the officer the display does not show anything different but I haven't actually taken a look at the radio myself as of yet.
It's a VHF model, 136 - 174 MHz. The transmit frequency it has the problem with is 158.940 MHz.
I'm not actually sure when this particular radio was last bench checked but I don't believe it has been serviced since it was purchased about a year and a half ago (or so).
