HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Hello,
I have programmed my EX600 XLS many times in the past with not problems at all. Until NOW!!
1. I read the current codeplug in the radio.
2. Saved codeplug to my desktop.
3. I added some Frequencies, and a new scan list as well as a new Zone.
4. click the button to write to the radio.
5. Now when i turn on the radio it says "EEPRM CS ERROR"
I tried the following
1. Open saved codeplug
2. click the button to write to the radio.
3. I get an error message in CPS that says "Type Control Block Bit For Vector #47 is 0 but vector is fd7f"
If I try and read the radio in CPS I get the following error. "Image is Corrupted. Checksum for R/W region failed".
I even tried writing the original code plug that was in the radio when I received it. ( I had it programmed before the CommUSA shiped it to me) but I get the same error as before.
Please Help!!!!!!!
I am using CPS Version R06.09.06 in windows XP
I am using a (yeah i know you will all hate me) USB ribless cable.
Radio is brand new, just a few weeks old. Model AAH38KDH9DU6AN

Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Just an update, because I know someone is going to bring this up.
I have searched the entire forums and read alot of posts about this error. They are all for a different radio, I have not found any about the ex600.
I have tried a few different versions of CPS,(6.05.03 is the next newest version i have) and but none of them seem to work for me. I tried reading the radio in professional tuner and get the error "All Frequency Point Data Is Invalid"
If i send the unit into Motorola (Which is the LAST RESORT, since i can't rellly afford the time not not having this radio, since im a Firefighter and this is my main means of communication) will they charge me to fix it since its still under warranty?
Any and all comments on how to fix the issue would be appreacated, Like I said earlier, I have already searched this forum and tried basically everything I could find. I'm looking for new Ideas that havent been discussed.

1. The fixes prescribed for the other Waris-family radios will work with this one as well. Namely, attempt to reprogram it using a known-good codeplug saved on disk. Another try would be performing a firmware upgrade - maybe, maybe not.
2. Yes, Motorola is going to charge you. To even have a case to maybe make them reconsider, you would need to be using your properly licensed Motorola CPS, proper Motorola RIB, and proper Motorola cable. Since you were using a knock-off piece of junk, they'll laugh and collect their flat rate charge.
Why anyone would attempt to program a Waris radio using anything but all Motorola equipment on a known-stable programming platform is beyond me. These radios are known to have this exact problem, but a lot of that can be avoided if you don't buy cheap cables and actually save a codeplug. I've programmed dozens of Waris series radios and have experienced one EEPROM CS ERROR, which was rectified by reprogramming with a saved codeplug.

yet another is taken down by usb. the only way you are gonna even start to bring it back to life is to use a real rib and cable. it would be the start to get rid of the blocked error messages right now usb don't know how to interpit anything. and depending on your firmware version in that radio if it is new you will probablly need at least 6.09 to work with that radio. do you even realize that using a usb cable to program your radio that it's probablly plugged into the same controller as your keyboard and mouse so if you move your mouse or hit a key while the radio is programming that you glitch the program

Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Just a note, I've never had the depot charge me for repairing any type of corrupted codeplug while the radio was under warranty. Maybe things are different up here in the great white north. The only Waris radios I've ever seen corrupted were with, you guessed it, a USB-to-serial converter. I've literally done a thousand different Waris radios, many of them multiple times, with nary a brick in the bunch using the factory programming gear.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Now that he's holding a brick in his hand, maybe he'll buy real motorola programming equipment. But that being said, my shop depots eeprom cs error radios when we see them mostly because our portable tech doesn't like to try to fix them or doesn't have the original codeplug available, be we have not been charged for a in warranty repair.
Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Corrupted codeplugs are covered under the standard warranty. Nobody asks what kind of cable was used with the radio when it gets sent in, they just blow in a default codeplug with lab and autotune the radio and send it back.

Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Thanks guys. I guess my next step would be to send the radio into /\/\otorola to get fixed and then while waiting for it to come back I can order a better cable. Would a ribless serial cable be better? Or should I just go out and spend $300 bucks on a RIB and cable

Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
Motorola makes "ribless" cables for the cdm's and ht750/1250 that are serial and have the rib built into the hood. I'm not sure if they make 1 for the ex's or not. If they do and thats the only radio you need to program I would get that.
Re: HELP!!! I think i briked by EX600 XLS
The only PC programming cable listed for the EX600XLS is AAJMKN4123A, a radio to RIB cable, for $150 list.

you're better off with a rib and cable setup, it will be cheaper in the long run. for the next radio you just get a cable
