W4 Control head: Can MODE knob be swapped to select ZONES ?

In searches I find that changing the control head on Astro Spectras is no simple matter.
I have the W4 Rotary control head on an Astro Spectra. I don't need to change the control head type.

I only want to swap the MODE knob to select ZONES and make the UP/DOWN Arrow keys
select MODES. The CPS offers no apparent option here nor does it appear to allow such a change.

Is there a way to do this without hardware changes or taking serious chances ?

That confirms what I had feared.

It's just that the Mode knob is such a pain to use,
that's how it goes.

Just change how you think about zones and modes. Reprogram the radios where zones are modes and modes are zones... like this:

Set the alpha to be all channel and no zone and it should work. Assuming this makes sense (it does to me, but it's hard to explain)

Hey, that is a pretty good idea.
When I gave it some thought, it makes sense to me, too.

That also opens a few other doors as well.

I couldn't decide if I was thinking outside the box or if I was having a serious deficiency of caffeine. Probably both. Play around with it, let us know how it works out for you.
