XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.

XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.
If you power the radio off using the control head or it powers off through a programming reboot, the radio will not turn back on. Even when you clone, the part in the middle where it needs to turn itself off and back on, it shuts off and doesn't come back on. The ONLY way this radio will turn on is by seeing ignition power-up.
I am using CPS 11.00.01. I didn't do the install but I don't see how even a messed up wiring job can cause this.

turn ignition sense off in the programming then?
Re: XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.
Radio Wide: Advanced tab: "Ignition Switch:"
6 settings to choose from. "Tx Inhibit", PTT Tx Inhibit", "Blank", "Soft Power Off",
"Required", and "Ignition Only Power-up".
Try playing with them.

Thats the first thing I did, I assumed it was programmed wrong. It was and still is set for SOFT POWER-OFF, as all the 5 other rigs. I tried other settings to no avail. I'm at a loss.

Is the emergency jumper in? The radio acts exactly as you describe if it's missing.

No its not. They didn't install those in any of the rigs. That explains it. All the other rigs probably have the same ignition dysfunction and I just never noticed. Whoever is doing the installs on their rigs obviously doesn't know about the emergency jumper since they are all like that. Now I have the explanation I was looking for. Thanks!

Re: XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.
I'm having this problem right now with a 1500 that a local fire department brought me. What does the emergency jumper look like? If I don't have one here, is there a pinout you guys have for this so I can make one?
Re: XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.
There is a 26 pin accessory connector on the rear of the radio. Take a look...if you can see the pins, then you don't have the corresponding 26-pin plug screwed onto the radio. It would have a pigtail coming out of it for an external speaker connection, by default. It also contains the emergency jumper.

Re: XTL1500 only powers on with ignition power up.
Find a solid piece of wire and jumper pin #15 and #14 together if the factory speaker/ignition connector is not already plugged into the rear 26-pin connector.
Use a suitable gauge (AWG) wire so it is snug and long enough to stay in place.
Your radio will then turn on/off with the volume knob.

The HLN6863A rear accessory connector with the ignition sense lead, speaker leads, and the internal emergency jumper, is all of $25 bucks at list. Do yourself a favor and get one, problem solved, the right way.
