XTL5000 W3 to O5 head
What's it take to put an O5 head on an XTL5000 currently equipped with a W3 head? What's it mean to "flash" a control head? Can any O5 head be swapped onto a radio with an O5 head already, or are they radio-specific?
Re: XTL5000 W3 to O5 head
Well for one, you have to make sure the firmware version in the O5 head is compatible with the radios Host version. So if your radio has lets say R12.00.xx in it, and you slap an older O5 head on it, it might power up in maintenance mode. The same holds true if your radio is lets say R05.xx.xx and you slap an O5 head on it from a newer radio, it will do the same. When you uplift the firmware in a mobile, the CH also gets uplifted.. I think the latest O5 firmware is somewhere around R06.00.03 or in that neighborhood..
Other than making sure the versions are compatible, all you would need to do in order to swap heads is go into the CPS menu and click change control head. Select the O5, and the CPS will reconfigure your codeplug to the selected CH type. You would then write the radio, and it will then function with the CH you picked. Of course you will need the O5 control head and hardware, flex, etc to make it work after you write the radio with the new configuration.
What's the firmware version currently in your radio?

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Re: XTL5000 W3 to O5 head
CPS 12 and higher comes with a feature that will uplift the firmware in the head and sync it with the radio. There is a separate CVN file you have to download from MOL with the CH firmware in it
