Looking for info on updating a xts2500

Post by beaujo_fire »

I am a member of a fire department that uses a p25 800 mhz trunking system in colorado. Several members carry there personally owned radios when on shift and this has made me think of possibly updating an xts2500 that I have had sitting on a shelf for several years. The radio that I own was purchased 2nd hand probably 4 or 5 years ago and it has the original firmware and such. I have been approved by the department to have the radio programmed for our department needs to use as my fireground radio while on shift. The catch is, I must have it updated to work with our system at my own cost and then it can be turned over to the admin person and it will be programmed by them or the company that is contracted to upkeep the system.

My question is what is a ball park figure for updating this radio? It will need the latest firmware as our system has been rebanded etc.
Will Motorola themselves have to do the updating? or can a nearby motorola radio shop handle this?

Thanks for any input.

It sounds like you're talking about a firmware refresh, which yes, your local MSS should be able to order for you (assuming they're conversant with the Expert Tier radios). List is $75, plus whatever labor the shop tacks on top.
