CDM1550LS question

Post by sleepingsurfer »

I've recently purchaced a CDM1550LS and while programming it I noticed that it won't let me add more than 16 channels under the conventional personality. After hitting this snag I checked the model number and it says that the radio should hold 128 channels. When I recieved it It only had 16 channels programmed into it because it was programmed to match a portable. The radio was sold to me by a friend from the FD and it was his personal mobile. As far as I know there has never been a problem with it, but he had the radio when I first met him so I can't say whether he got it new or not. Short of buying another radio(which I will if it comes down to it) is there a way to get past this, perhaps a setting that I missed or could it be a hardware thing?

I guess the first question to ask is how are you trying to add additional channels?

The Motorola software can be a big roadblock to those that have never used it before. Even to
us that have used it, unless you use it on a regular basis, it can lend itself to a number of roadblocks.
As Motorola can't seem to standardize it's software between the different families of radios, you
need to sometimes step back and ask just how would I do this if I was the dumb software idiot
that wrote the code for this radio.

In many cases, you need to be in the personality window and use the insert selection.

Bear in mind that you only get 16 channels in a scan list. So most of us use another personality
and a new scan list after the 16 channel limit.

Don't forget about the zone selection.

I'm not sure what version of CPS we are using. I had my county radio tech sit down with me and work on the programming. I've only ever used the MTS2000 CPS but they appeared similar however I left him to work with the software and I mainly just provided direction as far as what I wanted to add. To add channels we were going under the conventional personality section and trying to add them to the list by using the green plus button at the bottom of the screen. Problem is as soon as the 16th channel is added the button becomes unselectable and the only buttons remaining are the ones that allow you to scroll through the channels to edit them and the delete button. The software requires us to add all the channels in this manner then assign them to zones in a seperate section. I didn't really mess with the scan list section other than to see that it was empty. as I was intending on field programming that at a later time.

The "LS" models only had 16 or 18 conventional channel capacity, the rest of the "128 channels" are LTR trunked channels...160 actually. If you need more conventional channels, you require either a regular CDM1550 (no LS) or the "LS+" version, with a model number ending in "6AN". If it ends in "5AN", it is essentially the same as the "LS" and has the limited conventional channels as well.
