MT1500 vs PR1500
I now own both radios, a VHF PR1500 and a UHF MT1500. What are the real differences in the radios? They both have identical flash codes and both look identical, and codeplug structure seems to be the same. Only difference I can see is the MT1500 does 48 modes versus 32 on the PR1500.
Searches turned up nothing. Just curious.

PR1500, MT1500, XTS1500, and XTS2500's are all the same radio. The only difference is if it's a 4 meg or 8 meg board, but physically they all share the same internal uni-board..

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Only difference is in the software as Marc noted

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
what I thought, about the only other difference is the PR is a little darker gray than the MT, they both otherwise seem identical, even have the same flashcode. About the only annoyance is no radio wide selectable hi-low power, on the Pro series and Jedi's, you could program the A-B-C (HT/JT and MT2K) or side buttons (HT750/1250/1550) to change power levels, to select high/low RF. My PR and MT1500 only let you select power levels per personality (reminds me of analog Saber days!) or if there is I am missing it. Using CPS R12.01.00 right off my MOL account.

no adjustable power is yet another major complaint of the *ding ding ding* XTS2500

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
If you update the flash and use current CPS the MT1500 will do 96 modes. We have a number of Model 1.5's that with 12 CPS and ver. 12 firmware will do 96 modes.MTS2000des wrote: Only difference I can see is the MT1500 does 48 modes

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
Am using current CPS (R12.01.00 just showed up on my MOL account about 2 weeks ago), but the MT1500 is like an R08.xx, so you are saying if I do a firmware uplift to 12.xx, it will support 96 modes versus 48? It is a model I not a 1.5 like you guys have in PBC, so how would you access the zones past 3 (currently have the concentric switch set to zone/sys select)?

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
I have a Model 1 handy at the office and will try check to see how many modes it has with 12 and 12 tomorrow.
As to how to the get to the other Zones, I typicially don't use the Emergency button so I make that the button that switches from one bank of 48 to the next.

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
I never thought of that, I have the emergency button set to nuisance delete, but I guess I could set that to zone/sys select- only problem is on a model I with no display, I'll have to guess what zone it is on.

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
OK I checked it out. The MT1500 Model 1 is capable of 96 modes with R09.00.11 firmware and R12.00.00 CPS.
Yes the problem is to figure out which bank your in being there is no display.

Re: MT1500 vs PR1500
thanks for the info KS4VT, I am not sure I will need 96 modes on conventional (barely using 32 and half of that are ham stuff) but good to know. Thanks for your help.
