xts 2500 screen not working

Post by dagwag77 »

Ok, so I slipped on the ice (lovely Boston weather) and slid butt first down a set of stairs, with my trusty xts2500 on my belt, which got dragged along for the ride. Surprisingly, no noticable scratches on the case, but my screen is all screwy now. When I turn it on, I just get a blank lit (Greenish) screen. If I hit the zone button that line of text will appear (perfect quality). If I start to change channels now or press other buttons or change the ABC switch I can get most everything to appear on the screen, but not all at once. Sometimes text will appear and not disappear, sometimes text wont appear - its quite screwy. I put a new codeplug on it, and nada. Right now its showing me the time (top left) and the channel, no zone, no scan symbol, my name is usually on the line under the channel and its not there, sometimes BATT shows up, sometimes SCAN shows up (buttons)....quite odd... If you think pics will help I'll post 'em.

Any suggestions, short of taking it to Moto dealer? Is replacing the LCD screen something I can do on my own?

Thanks,
Dave

Sounds like the display connector has come loose and just needs to be reseated.

Open the radio and make sure the display flex is plugged in firmly.

newbie question here: how do I go about taking the radio apart. I'm fairly sure I can figure out which is the LCD flex cable once I figure out how to open it...

Thanks

Opening the XTS2500 is not easy without the proper case disassembly tool. It's possable to do without this tool, but you'll mark/dent up the case a bit without it.

OK - I finally got the chassis opening tool, I've got the xts2500 opened up, and reseated both flex connectors. The radio works, the screen still flashes all sorts of wicked stuff, and sometimes doesn't even work. Something else I should look for? Should I replace the screen? Or is it time to call Mama M and send it to them?

Thanks,
Dave

If it is a factory tagged model, ie not a 123abc1234 unit. There is a fsb out for flaky screens on a certain run of xts2500's. Yours may be included. I'm not sure of the fsb number right now, but your dealer should be able to depot it under the srn if your serial number falls in the right spot. Just leave out the slide on your but down the stairs part.

The FSB is 10076C expiring 31JAN2010. XTS2500 1.5, 2 and 3 are covered. Model number ending in AN with S/N xxxXGVxxxx (October 2006)or previous is covered.
